Up and running in 5 minutes
No account, no login, no internet required. AutoTripLog stores everything on your device. Start tracking immediately after install — no sign-up step, no email address, no cloud account.
- First launch. Pick your tax jurisdiction (IRS, CRA, HMRC, or ATO), enter Make and Model, choose Automatic or Manual tracking. Optionally enter your current odometer reading.
- Let the app track. Nothing to start. AutoTripLog detects vehicle motion via GPS and accelerometer and records trips automatically. When a trip ends, a review sheet asks you to confirm Business or Personal and enter a purpose.
- Generate your report. Drawer → Generate Mileage Report. Pick a date range and format (PDF or CSV) — the report is saved to your device, ready to share with your accountant.
Daily habit: 30 seconds to confirm trip type and purpose after each drive. That's it.
Why AutoTripLog?
Privacy first
No cloud servers. No accounts. No GPS coordinates uploaded. All data stays on your device. The only outbound traffic is anonymous map tiles, address lookups, and crash diagnostics — no trip data, ever.
Built around tax record-keeping requirements
Period-end odometer prompts that match your jurisdiction's typical requirements (mandatory under CRA and ATO guidance, recommended under IRS guidance, not used for HMRC's pence-per-mile method). Jurisdiction-aware reminders. Discrepancy flagging when GPS distance and odometer disagree by more than 10% so you can correct it before filing.
International & multi-vehicle
Per-vehicle odometer units (km gauge, mile reports — or vice versa). Fiscal year support, not calendar-locked. Multiple vehicles, each with its own gauge.
No coordination required
Household vehicle sharing? Each driver tracks independently on their own device. No forced account sharing, no cross-contamination, no admin dashboard.
Driving safety guards
When a trip is actively recording, AutoTripLog hard-blocks settings changes and shows a "pull over before continuing" confirmation before scanning receipts, editing trips, or generating reports. Mileage tracking shouldn't become a distraction risk.
Trip evidence quality
A purchase receipt is a third-party document — printed by the merchant at the moment of the transaction. It captures vendor, address, date, time, and amount independently of anything you wrote. A handwritten log is a self-recorded document. Tax-authority audit guidance generally treats contemporaneous third-party documents as stronger corroboration than self-recorded notes, though the weight given to any specific record depends on jurisdiction and circumstances.
AutoTripLog scores trip evidence accordingly so you can see at a glance which trips have the strongest supporting documentation:
| How the trip was created | Evidence quality |
|---|---|
| Auto-captured GPS + receipt confirmed within 24h | ✅ GPS + Receipt |
| Auto-captured GPS (no receipt) | 🟢 GPS-only |
| Add to Trips from a receipt row | 🟡 Receipt-backed |
| Paper Log transcription | 🟠 Paper log (retain original) |
| Memory reconstruction only | 🔴 Memory only — high audit risk |
AutoTripLog is a record-keeping tool, not a tax, legal, or accounting advisor. Whether any specific record satisfies your tax authority depends on jurisdiction, deduction method, and the rest of your records. Always confirm requirements with a qualified professional.
